After the incident, government authorities failed to punish the perpetrators and instead attempted to cover up the deception from the victim's family. and deceive the public about the incident. After footage of the bullying surfaced online on August 2, local residents staged a large-scale protest on August 4 to speak out for the girl. Instead, the government violently suppressed the demonstrators and made arrests. Public attention was diverted toward police brutality, effectively burying the bullying incident.

In the face of violence, power, lost memories, and the disorientation of the present, this work is dedicated to the Lai family, whose story has been lost in the public discourse.
